A cable looks simple from across the room. Up close, it is a small piece of engineering — and the difference between a flat, lifeless twist and one with real depth comes down to a handful of decisions made before knitting begins.
Gauge sets the stage
Heavier gauges (3–5GG) give bold, sculptural cables; finer gauges (7–12GG) keep them crisp and elegant. Matching gauge to yarn weight is the first move.
Twist, cross and tension
The number of needles crossed, the direction of the cross and the tension at the crossover all change how the cable stands up off the surface. Too loose and it sags; too tight and the fabric puckers.
Our programmers prototype cables on-machine and adjust live, so you can approve the bounce and definition on a real swatch — not a sketch.
